Seeing More Clearly Now
I am just now thinking of two songs in particular- “I can see clearly now, the rain is gone . . .” and ”On a clear day, I can see forever”. I am not even going to attempt to name the artists. Rather I want to touch on the implication of their words. Generally I have thought of my future as pretty clear- I know things were coming that I am not real excited about, but such is the way of life when you have a family, and raise up children. The future wasn’t necessarily foggy, but it certainly came into sharper focus- just last week.
That focus came with the arrival of a letter from a certain University my son recently applied to. You guessed it- ” . . . you have been accepted”, this is what you need to do, and this is when we expect to see you, and oh, by the way- congrats on your grades– and make sure to stop by the financial office. Actually I am not so interested in what the letter said, as to what it implied. True reality has hit. My son is leaving the nest! In a matter of months! I asked for it. We raised him to become a responsible adult, upstanding citizen, God-fearing Christian, – and further his education, but a mother’s heart feels the impending reality of what’s at stake.
My point for you- what do you think I am doing about this finality that I feel? I’ve decided to embrace it and keep moving forward- but definitely more than ever- appreciating the moments and times we have together now. Have you had an important, maybe life-changing event recently? What are you doing about it? Are you able to embrace it, move ahead and make the best of what might not even be your choice, in the situation? Or have you caved in and decided life just isn’t worth it? Or maybe not caved completely, but lost your zest for what’s ahead?
Do consider that there is a lot of living to do, and most likely there are many that are positively touched by your existence. Well- if they are not positively impacted by your presence in their life, maybe this is the time to engage in new behaviors- but that is a whole other blog topic. For now I submit to you Jeremiah 29:11- “I know the plans I have for you- Plans to prosper you and not to harm you- to give you a hope and a future.” The Lord goes on to suggest that we should call upon him and come and pray, and He will listen- seek and we will find. There is hope, we can have a clear and decent future. Don’t give up or cave in. Go to the Ultimate Source of Strength and experience what can happen when God’s plan becomes yours. Surely that has a positive impact on our health and provides for optimal living.
